African American Artists
The African heritage is one that is often overlooked when artists are considered, much to the detriment of the American cultural history and to the artists themselves. There are, and have been, innumerable African American artists that hold a place of honor and respect in the history books. This 13 page paper looks at three such artists: Alice Walker, a contemporary feminist writer; Alvin Ailey, dancer, choreographer, and innovator of modern dance; and 'Duke' Ellington, maybe one of the greatest jazz musicians and dance band leaders of all time. Bibliography lists 12 sources.
